If you’re a business owner or freelancer who relies on invoicing to get paid, you know how important it is to create clear, accurate, and professional invoices. But did you know that adding tips to your invoices can be a great way to boost your income and show appreciation to your clients? In this blog, we’ll walk you through the steps to allow your customers to add tips to their invoice payments within ServiceWorks.
Enabling Tips In ServiceWorks
In order to set up your tips properly, you’ll need to ensure of the following:
Click on the cogwheel on the toolbar and navigate to Configuration -> Invoice Settings -> Invoice Charges

In the Other Option panel, check the Add Tips box. This will ensure that this option is available whenever an invoice payment is taken. Be sure to click Save before continuing

Next, within the Configuration tab, click on Invoice Email

In the body of your invoice email, be sure that the {PAYMENTLINK} dynamic text is in the code. You can type this in manually or copy and paste it from the legend on the right. This will provide your customers with a direct link to pay their invoice. Be sure to click Save at the bottom of the page.

Once both steps have been completed, your customers should now have access to the tipping option.
Adding Tips To Invoices
Now that you’ve enabled tips, here’s what your customers will see:
Once the job is ready to be invoiced, your customer’s will receive an email similar to the one below (based on your email setup). The Payment Link added to the email from earlier should appear with a blue “click here” link

When clicked that link will direct your customer to a payment screen, where they will now have the option to add tips in the amount of 10%, 15%, 18%, 20%, a custom tip amount, or No Tip.

The tip amount will appear under the “Other Charges” within your invoice.
