Overview: This blog will guide you through the process of utilizing the zone creation and assignment feature within ServiceWorks
In ServiceWorks, zones can be used to categorize and organize areas of service, making it easier to manage and assign jobs within specific regions. By leveraging the Zone feature, you’ll be able to streamline your service delivery process, ensuring that resources are optimally utilized and services are provided efficiently across the different locations where your customers reside
Zone Creation
To begin, start by logging into your ServiceWorks account and once on the home screen, click the cogwheel in the upper right corner to open the Configuration tab

Once open, select the Service Settings option from the popup tab.

In the service settings menu, scroll to the bottom to see the Zone section. Here, you’ll be able to view all the default and previously created zones within your account. By default, any jobs created or scheduled without a zone assigned will be assigned to Unmapped Zone

To create a new zone for service, click the New Zone button

When clicked, you should be presented with a popup menu with the following fields:

- Name: Enter the desired name of your zone here
- Color: When selected, will allow you to assign a specific color to the zone for easy identification on the schedule view. By default this will select a random, unused color for assignment if left empty
- Country: Set the country in which the zone will reside
- By: The ‘by’ field is used to determine what parameters will define the zone.
You’ll have three choices for zone definition: City, State, or Zip Pattern. The field directly beneath the Country field will be where you can define the zone by a city’s individual name, a city & state name, or a specific zip code or zip pattern
When finished with your entry, click Add. Now that the entered parameter has been added to the zone, you’ll see it listed below in the Added city, state, zip pattern for this Zone section

You can select multiple states, cities, and zip patterns to be added to the zone. And each one added will show the type of parameter selected in red font above the tile. You can delete unwanted selections by clicking the x next to the parameter type.

When finished with your selections, click Save to continue back to the Service Settings menu. Your newly created zone can now be seen within the zone list below, with the option to edit or delete the zone with the icons to the left.

And in the top, be sure to click the Automate Zone Selection to automatically assign jobs created to the zones that match their city, state, or zip pattern

Using Zones
Now that you’ve created your zones, here’s a few places within the system where you can use them to view and assign jobs:
Schedule View
Within main Schedule view, you can see all jobs scheduled sorted by the zones active within your account by clicking the Zone button within the search filters

Map View
You can also utilize the zone filter within the map view as well, displaying all jobs scheduled within the selected zone

Jobs Search & Editing
You can use the zone filter in the job search menu to bring up scheduled jobs by their assigned zone

As well as manually assigning zones to jobs within the Job Information section of the Edit Job menu (If you’ve checked the automate zone box from earlier, this will reflect the current city, state, or zip pattern of created zones. Otherwise, it will appear under Unmapped Zone)

Professional / User Creation
You can assign created zones as Default Working Zones for users, ensuring that they are among the first to choose from when assigning technicians to jobs within the defined zone

This can also be defined for teams and contracted users as well

Instant Booking
You can also utilize zones within your instant booking (if applicable) to organize incoming service requests (more on zones in instant booking HERE)
