Pip: ServiceWorks Academy dropped a September release notes post, and if you ever wanted proof that a software team spent the whole month at their desks, this is it.
Mara: This episode covers the September 2026 product update — website workflow improvements, integration enhancements across dispatch providers, and a wave of mobile app additions. Let's start with what changed and why it matters.
September 2026: What's New Across the Platform
Pip: This update spans three areas — the web platform, integrations, and the mobile app — and the throughline is reducing friction: fewer clicks, cleaner inboxes, smarter data handling. The question worth asking is which of these changes actually moves the needle day to day.
Mara: The invoice notification overhaul is probably the most consequential. The post describes it this way: "Invoice notifications are now queued and processed asynchronously, allowing invoice generation to continue without being blocked by notification processing."
Pip: So instead of the system holding its breath while it sends a notification, it queues the work and keeps moving. For a busy shop sending dozens of invoices, that's real time back.
Mara: The post is careful about failure handling too — failed notifications are logged independently so one bad send doesn't stall the rest of the queue. Notification statuses like Pending, Sent, and Failed are tracked, and the 24-hour notification window is respected to prevent duplicates.
Pip: That last detail is the kind of thing you only think to build after someone gets the same invoice email four times at midnight.
Mara: On the web side, the Customers page now loads empty by default — records only appear after a user clicks Search. For large databases, that's a meaningful reduction in page-load time on every visit.
Pip: The PO from POS addition is the one I'd want to understand better. What's the scope of that?
Mara: It's substantial. Purchase Orders can now be created directly from the Customer Order or POS screen, for both in-stock and out-of-stock items. The post explains that once a PO is received, the POS syncs automatically and received items become available in inventory with correct tracking IDs and serial numbers. The Item History and Tracking Log covers the full lifecycle — allocation, receipt, return, void transactions.
Mara: Core charge management got the same treatment. Parts marked "Has Core" automatically generate a linked Core Part record, and Marcone integration updates core cost and creates the core part automatically when it returns that information.
Pip: On the integration side, the Comprehensive Data Mapping post is essentially the technical specification for how dispatch payloads from NewLeaf, ORHP, and DispatchMe get normalized into a single common model before landing in ServiceWorks — field by field, with fallback rules documented.
Mara: Duplicate customer handling also improved for auto-accepted dispatch jobs from ServiceBench, ServicePower, NSA, LG, and FAHW. The system now searches by name plus phone plus email plus address, then progressively relaxes the criteria, which cuts down on unnecessary duplicate records.
Pip: The mobile app additions follow the same logic of closing gaps between web and field. Role switching — switching to Admin or Billing — is now available directly from the mobile profile, matching what the web app already offered.
Mara: Technicians also get Explanation of Service on the Route page Notes section now, alongside the existing Customer, Job, and Trip notes. The post notes it displays the last EOS added by the most recent technician, so the next person on the job has context without digging.
Mara: Return POs can now be initiated from the mobile app under Inventory Management, and the Parts Pick List scan pop-up was enhanced to show the item number and transfer location when a barcode is scanned — more confirmation before a transfer goes through.
Pip: So the mobile work this cycle is mostly about bringing parity and adding visibility — less toggling back to a desktop to complete a workflow.
Mara: The integration updates round it out: Quo now provides integrated text messaging with an Integrated Text tab, LG dispatch tickets carry a warranty flag, and AHS DispatchMe mapping improved across job description, warranty status, billing dates, and clickable knowledge base links.
Pip: A lot of ground covered. The Marcone SSB addition — Self-Service Branch ordering — is worth flagging too: it lets users route a PO to a customer's designated Marcone warehouse rather than a standard location, configured via a warehouse ID and a new permission in Company Settings.
Mara: Which connects back to the broader pattern here — more control, more specificity, fewer workarounds built outside the system.
Pip: Asynchronous processing, smarter duplicate matching, field parity on mobile — this release is mostly about the platform catching up to how people actually work.
Mara: Next time we'll see what ServiceWorks builds on top of this foundation. There's a lot of infrastructure laid here.
