Troubleshooting: Latitude and Longitude

One common issue that can occur when importing customers into ServiceWorks is the incorrect assignment of customer adddress locations. This problem often arises when using the import tool or transferring data from ServiceBench or ServicePower. Fortunately, there’s a simple solution to rectify this situation and ensure your technicians are dispatched to the correct addresses. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through the process of obtaining latitude and longitude coordinates for customer addresses using Google Maps and how to update them within ServiceWorks.

Locating The Correct Longitude and Latitiude

To begin, open Google Maps in your web browser. Then, type in the customer’s address in the search bar. Google Maps will display a red marker indicating the approximate location of the address on the map.

Once the red marker is shown on the map, right-click on it. This action will bring up a sub-menu with various options. At the top of this sub-menu, you’ll find a set of numbers. These numbers represent the latitude and longitude coordinates of the customer’s address. Click the coordinate numbers to copy them to your clipboard

Updating Latitude and Longitude in ServiceWorks

Now that you have the correct coordinates for your customer’s address, return to the ServiceWorks software and click on Customer in the toolbar and then Customers to enter the customer view

In this view, either use the search fields or the generated list below to locate the customer address you wish to edit, and then select Edit from the dropdown action menu

In the following customer edit menu, scroll down to the Address section and click the “+” button next to the customers name

Once clicked, you should now be able to view and edit the address’ latitude and longitude in the lower right corner of the address section. Paste the previously copied coordinates into this section and be sure to click Save at the bottom of the screen before navigating from this page.

Now that you’ve updated the coordinates for the address, we recommend testing out the new address location to ensure it is now appearing in the correct location.
